The Birds of Marden Quarry

Picture of a Reed BuntingThe birds of Marden Quarry have been intensively studied and observed for many years by a small number of dedicated birders.  For a relatively small area it has amassed a surprisingly large number of birds either seen in the quarry or flying over.  Thirty species breed in the quarry and a further forty nine species are seen regularly.  Thirty more are seen occasionally during the year.  It would surprise most people to find that over a hundred different bird species could be seen in the quarry every year.  It is a credit to the outstanding effort of the regular observers that a further sixty species have been recorded with varying degrees of rarity.  This puts the total quarry bird list at one hundred and sixty nine. For a small site in the middle of a suburban area this is an amazing total. More about the birds of Marden Quarry
